Accompanying Loss
The Role of Social Education in Grief Intervention
Keywords:

Grief is a deeply personal process that unfolds uniquely for each individual, yet it also possesses a social and communal dimension that calls for accompaniment and support. From a Social Education perspective, socio-educational intervention plays a vital role in creating spaces for listening, facilitating emotional expression, and building supportive networks that enable individuals to reconstruct their lives following loss. This article presents a socio-educational intervention proposal structured around three key areas: the creation of grief support groups as spaces for mutual aid and community accompaniment; individualised support tailored to the specific needs of each bereaved person; and educational interventions aimed at preventing isolation and promoting social inclusion. Drawing on both theoretical foundations and practical experience, the role of the social educator is examined as that of a facilitator of resilience and personal growth, adopting a human-centred approach to loss.
